The walk from Bedugul market to the Ashram Hotel takes about 10 minutes. The temples on the shore are another 10 minutes further on. From the market to the entrance of the botanical gardens takes about 15 minutes on foot.

Here, the taunts were gone, only because there were a number of restaurant staff guarding the entrance door. The food was terrible at best, and while boasting the open-air view of the volcano and Lake Batur, it was already somewhat jaded.

Indeed, at Kintamani, I was trapped between the rock and the hard place - the terrible street vendors pushed me into a disappointingly expensive and insipid buffet lunch.

Mount Batur is one of a small volcano, but the location was in the midst of a large crater 14 km in diameter.
